ROC Governance Training Series

ROC Training and Information, Resident-owned Communities

How your resident-owned community handles day-to-day tasks, addresses challenges, and plans for the future will determine how successful you will be—as a community and as a business.

A co-op's volunteer board of directors must always fulfill two main duties: Loyalty to the cooperative and duty of care when acting on the co-op's behalf.

The co-op's president runs meetings and decides what will be discussed and in what order. The vice president's responsibilities are determined by the needs of the president and the rest of the board.

A ROC's secretary has many important jobs, including maintaining your bylaws and rules, posting meeting notices and taking minutes, and updating membership and resident lists.

A co-op's treasurer is responsible for its finances and financial records, including budget, bank, and other records, as well as loan and contractual agreements.

A ROC's operations director ensures that the co-op's services are working and in compliance with the laws and codes, and that all necessary work is covered in the co-op's annual budget.
