"I did this!" For Hard-Working Mom, New Home is a Symbol of Pride
Sarah Blair and her daughter marked Thanksgiving by “camping out” on an air mattress in their empty living room, watching an old TV with broken speakers.
It was the best night ever — because it was the first Thanksgiving in their new home.
"I did this!"
Synposis:
- Sara Blair never thought she could be a homeowner, despite working 50 hours a week.
- But when she found a home nearby for sale in her price range and a co-worker recommended the Community Loan Fund, Sara started to feel hopeful.
- Sara qualified to receive a Homeowner Assistance Loan for the downpayment and closing costs, which made it possible for her to become a homeowner. And, by becoming a homeowner, Sara has shown her teenage daughter that hard work pays off.
Sara describes herself as a single mother who owns two small businesses and works full-time as a delivery driver. She never thought she could be a homeowner.
Although she’ll describe a series of “signs from the universe” that led her to homeownership in Deering, New Hampshire, she’s also proud (and rightly so) to take credit for the hard work that made it all possible.
“I did this!” she said, triumphantly, after the closing in November 2025.
For Sara, her new home is a symbol of pride, security, and self-worth.
“I'm so grateful to be able to show my daughter that dreams can come true if you work at it and you don't give up,” she said. “I have something that belongs to me, that shows all the hard work that I've done.”
